13 years ago I was no longer giving my job everything. I was bored, unfulfilled, and felt my calling was elsewhere.
I had worked in large corporations – McKinsey, HSBC, the Financial Times - trading time for money, with very little freedom.
Then in 2011, I packed it all in. Moving myself and my family from the sunlight of dreamy Dubai to frequently freezing Toronto.
I had no idea what to do, but I had a blank canvas.
Eventually, I stumbled across a student housing project and realized I was on the money. Literally.
I grafted away, researched everything I could about the market, put together a bulletproof business plan, and secured an $18m loan.
Over the coming years - with the kind support of many - I developed more than a hundred million dollars of real estate.
Today, things are automated to the point that the business hardly needs my involvement.
I'm also privileged to have time for my family, friends, to travel frequently, and invest in start-ups.
Time is something I’m fortunate to be able to have a lot more of today due to entrepreneurship - and it’s something I’d like for a lot more people.
